What Apple Siri Can do for you?
If you use an iPhone, Siri is either your best friend or a major nuisance. Compared to other voice interfaces like Alexa or Google Assistant, Siri’s limited capabilities may make it seem outdated.
But despite Siri’s limitations, Apple’s virtual assistant has more to offer than meets the eye. Do you have any idea what Siri can do for us?
Launched a few years ago, Siri shortcuts have countless useful uses. Here’s something you may not know: You can use Siri to record videos, mute your phone, and send a text if you ever drag and everything is fast. With phrases. This way.
Siri can help you prove your case
When it comes to police conversations, it’s often against the words of the officer who pulled you over. And finally, officers are more likely to trust the police – unless you have a recording, that is.
And now, you can secretly use a custom Siri command to start a recording session with nothing but your voice.
This command, titled “I’m Being Pooled” by Redditor Robert Peterson, was created in the hope of helping people keep records if the conversation went wrong. In an interview with KCTV last year, Peterson said he wanted “a way for anyone who has evidence of version of events in a situation where something unexpected could happen”.
This is the mindset behind DashCam, which can help keep people accountable to other drivers for liability and insurance purposes. Click or click here to see our best picks for affordable dashcams that you can install on your car.
Here’s how it works: Once the shortcut is set up, you can say “Hey Siri, I’m being dragged” and start recording. Siri will then stop playing any music, turn on Do Not Disturb and reduce the brightness of the display. After that, Siri automatically activates the front camera and starts recording a video.
In the meantime, Siri will work in the background to send a text message to your selected contacts, letting them know you’ve been pulled. Once you have completed the recording, Siri will send a video of your current location and conversation to this contact. You’ll also have the option to upload videos to your iCloud or Dropbox account.
It comes with a lot of activity from a single voice command, but that’s why Siri shortcuts have become a boon for the iPhone customizer. Click or click here to see more Siri shortcuts that you can take advantage of.
How do I set up an ‘I’m dragging’ shortcut?
Since the shortcut is user-generated, you need to enable your phone to accept “untrusted shortcuts”. This means that Apple has not officially signed off on the shortcut, but you can be sure that you will have no problem downloading it. It has been tested by others with iPhones for safe and secure use.
This is what it takes to get Siri ready to back you up. While you’re at it, you can also explore other shortcuts from the Gallery menu. In addition to “dragging me”, we recommend sticking to Apple-approved shortcuts for your security.
Shortcuts are another way to teach old voice assistants new techniques. And maybe, in Apple’s way of thinking, Siri had this idea behind it: leave development in the hands of users.
